Free Geek For Your Computer Disposal
May 2, 2007
It is one of those pesky annoying problems. What do you do with your old computer or equipment? The answer is simple, the Free Geek. This group of more than 100 volunteers is here to ensure your old computer stuff will be recycled in a responsible eco-friendly way and it gets better. Your old computer or equipment will be reconditioned and given away free to a needy group or an individual. It is patterned after the phenomenally successful Free Geek in Portland, Oregon. The Free Geek is big in Portland. The group has a 15,000 square foot facility and gives conducted public tours. David Repa, start-up co-coordinator of Free Geek Vancouver, saw it all in 2000 when visiting Portland and he got the bug. Last November he quite his full-time job and devoted his time to starting up Free Geek, a non-profit organization in Vancouver. Free Geek Vancouver has been operating since last November. By June they hope to open their own computer thrift store and warehouse. But in the meantime they are busy accepting computers and computer equipment for reconditioning and recycling. The Geek is starting to make an impact. This Friday 20 desktops will be removed from the offices of a Vancouver company so that they can be reconditioned and given to those who need them. Free Geek, a great group doing great work. Visit them and get all the details at: www.freegeekvancouver.org
