A New Venture - Beautiful Recycled Items Recycled
October 3, 2008

The Living Green movement has a motto - reduce, reuse, recycle.
Now a Vancouver small business owner has done just that.
Uniquely Yours Furniture on Consignment is now Uniquely Green Home Decor.
The company has expanded from being a furniture and furnishings consignment store to one that also carries a lot of products that are made from recycled materials.
And that is one smart move.
The whole recycled materials retail scene is still in its infancy in this country.
But look at Europe (especially England) and parts of the United States and you realize it has become a major business force to be reckoned with.
So just what exactly does Uniquely Green Home Decor carry?
Here is but a small list - rugs from recycled plastic, glass vases and beautiful art glass from recycled glass.
And there is jewellery from vintage and recycled jewellery, hand bags from plastic bags made in Delhi, and melamine dishes made from recycled melamine that are colorful, funky and useful.
Uniquely Yours Furniture, a company with a strong reputation for great service and goods, had been in business for more than 7 1/2 years.
But a decision had to be made whether it was time to grow or to close.
And one of the owners Victoria Biggs - she is known as an ardent environmentalist - decided that the store would grow.
The store now would be a real reflection of its mission statement and values: recycle, reuse and renew.
But the process of finding great Living Green products wasn't easy.
In fact, it took two years to find the right goods.
Take a look and see if there is anything for you.
Healthy Food Of The Week - Avocado

The avocado.
It is readily available year round.
It packs a healthy wallop in many respects.
Avocados reduce cholesterol and thus the risk of atherosclerosis.
An avocado is full of vitamins E, C and B6, as well as potassium and folic acid, all essential anti-toxicants.
And consider this - one avocado provides 40 per cent of the recommended daily allowance for folic acid, of particular benefit to pregnant women.
Avocados also are really high in monounsaturated fat, which is good for you.
As well avocados are a good source of dietary fibre.
But be careful in how many avocados you eat since they are high in calories with an average one containing around 240 calories.
